What's your definition of self care?

Marketing says its products for our face and hair

But truth is…

Self care can’t always be bought in a bottle

Now I’m not trying to sound like Aristotle

But it’s saying those words that threaten to throttle

It's the boundary you set,

So your needs are met.

It’s the “no” when you’ve been taught to say “yes”

Cause society says as a woman your needs mean less

And after all isn’t putting everyone first kindness?

I want us to relearn what it means to be kind

Because too many think it means leaving ourselves behind

Being a martyr for your man

Forget YOUR dream and YOUR plan

So when you think of self care

I want you to say

This means being my own bae

This means pursuing my passion

English, science, animals, fashion

This means not being loyal to a fault,

Recognizing the man forms of mental abuse and assault

Holding people accountable like an adult

This means putting yourself first,

For better or for a short term worse

Because of unfulfilled potential?

Now that is a curse
