Had to remind myself why for many reasons it’s better that way ⠀

in fact today we walked for miles and miles, 🐾⠀

Relived shared smiles,⠀

So although I’d love to hear your claws clatter on the kitchen tiles...⠀

I don’t want you to be in pain⠀

and I know if you came back things couldn’t be the same.⠀

Life is beginnings and endings.⠀

I can’t fight that.⠀

(Although time and I are in constant combat)⠀

I’ve never been good at letting go,⠀

They say that’s why people like me get so low⠀

But I guess you taught me that too⠀

because for you?⠀

I didn’t hide from what had to be done,⠀

though believe me I wanted to just grab you, bolt and run⠀

that wouldn’t have been fair.⠀

I knew that when you gave me that last thank you stare.⠀

We went on a walk today⠀

And I wanted you so bad to stay.⠀

Seeing you happy is where I got my joy⠀

(And you’d never abuse that unlike a boy)⠀

Or maybe we make it complicated?⠀

Either way you taught me words are overrated,⠀

Quite outdated,⠀

Real love is understated⠀

A chin on the knee⠀

Eyes just focused on me ⠀

Actions you can & gave for free.⠀
